Rakim Mayers was born in Harlem, New York on October 3rd 1988. ASAP was born to Barbadian parents. He has two sisters, one of whom is named Erica B. Mayers started rapping at an early age of eight but got serious about his craft about 10 years later. When growing up, Rocky was a fan of Southern hip-hop, which explains his rapping style. At a tender age of 12, ASAP’s father was jailed. A year later, his older brother was shot dead by a rival. Rocky, his mother and his two sisters lived in a shelter for a while. His father passed on in 2012.

In 2007, Rocky was 19 Years old when he hooked up with the A$AP Mob, which is a collective of rappers, producers and directors, fashion designers, bikers who shared interests in music and art. It was during this time when Mayers acquired the name ASAP Rocky.
In 2011, Rocky self released two singles Peso and Purple Swag. In October 2011, ASAP released his first mixtape; ‘Live.Love.A$AP’. He was also signed to Polo Grounds Music/ Sony Music- J Records in the same year.
‘Long.Live.A$AP’ . In January 2013, Rocky’s debut album ‘Long.Live.A$AP’ was released. The album was a success and topped the Billboard 200 chart. The album generated four singles, on of which was a big hit. The singles were; “”Fashion Killa”, “Goldie,” Wild for the Night,” and “F****n’ Problems”. In March 2015, this album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA), for the shipment of 500,000 copies in the United States.
‘At.Long.Last.A$AP.’ On May 26, 2015, Rocky’s second album ‘At.Long.Last.A$AP.’ was released. This album was co-produced by Award winning and super producer, Danger Mouse. The album featured guest appearances by Future, Kanye West, MIA, Mark Ronson and Rod Stewart. This album was a success and debuted a number one on Billboard 200 chart.
Testing. On May 28, 2018, three years from the release of his previous album, ASAP released Testing. The album featured several collaborators like French Montana, Kid Cudi, Kodak Black and Frank Ocean.
Acting and Fashion
By June 2015, ASAP made his acting debut in the movie Dope, where he played the role of a small-time drug dealer.
In 2016, Rocky collaborated with designer Jonathan Anderson on a menswear capsule collection. He also partnered with designer Jeremy Scott on an all-black Adidas Wings trainers. In 2016, Dior announced ASAP as the face of Dior Homme. ASAP also collaborated with Guess Jeans.
Rocky regularly attended fashion shows by big brands such as Gucci, Saint Laurent, Dior and Calvin Klein. It was also in the Met Gala where his year long relationship with Kendall Jenner was made public.
Sweden Arrest
In July 2019, ASAP was arrested in Stockholm, Sweden. This arrest followed a video clip that had resurfaced, of Rocky and three of his entourage were seen fighting two men in the street. ASAP posted some footage on Instagram, where his crew was herd repeatedly requesting the two men to stop following them. Mayer’s defense attorney maintained that his client was acting in self defense. He was later convicted of assault, given a suspended prison sentence and asked to pay the victim $1,270 in damages.
Hollywood Shooting
In 2022, April 20th, ASAP Rocky was arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport. This arrest followed an alleged assault with a deadly weapon in a shooting that took place on November 6th, 2021. On Wednesday 29th January 2025, rapper ASAP Rocky arrived for the trial at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles. The Victim, identified as Terell Ephron alias A$AP Relli explained to the court what happened on that night, November 2021. If found guilty, Rocky could face up to 24 years in prison.
Did Rihanna appear in court for ASAP’s trial? Rihanna made her first court appearance at the trial of ASAP Rocky on 29th January 2025. She was seen at the Los Angeles court where her partner is charged with two felony accounts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. She sat between his mother and sister as the former ally and accuser testified about the events of the night where he alleges Rocky fired at him.
